I.Q.
Technology Ltd. Is a small private company domiciled in New
Zealand. Principal Geoff Pearson was born and educated in the UK
and on completing high school went directly into the Merchant
Marine as a marine engineer cadet.
During his years at college and at sea he gained professional
mechanical and marine engineering qualifications (steam and
motor) and worked for a variety of shipping companies in the UK,
Singapore and Hong Kong.
After dropping anchor in New Zealand, Geoff worked for a few
years in the meat industry followed by 20-years as a Power and
Steam Plant Engineer in the pulp and paper industry on what was
then the largest integrated pulp and paper mill site in
Australasia. In 1992 he started I.Q. Technology which was
initially involved mainly in the configuration and commissioning
of industrial process control systems. After working on a number
of large boiler-related projects in New Zealand, Canada and
Australia, Geoff changed direction and turned his attention to
training.
During visits to the USA and Canada in the mid nineties he
witnessed state-of-the-art multimedia training being introduced
at that time by some large corporations and the US military.
Hugely impressed by its effectiveness and future potential, he
immediately set about creating a set of CD-ROM based training
courses covering boiler-related topics. Following release, they
were widely acclaimed and continue to be used extensively for
operator training in New Zealand and elsewhere.
I.Q. Technology has evolved as a specialist training provider
serving all industry sectors requiring steam training. It is
accredited to all of the relevant New Zealand Industry Training
Organizations (ITOs) to deliver Energy-Chemical training to the
highest level and Geoff is a New Zealand Qualification Authority
(NZQA) qualified competency assessor. The company has a diverse
customer-base and enjoys a reputation for excellence.
With over 50-years experience as a practicing steam engineer,
Geoff has an intimate knowledge of his subject matter and the
evolving requirements of modern boiler operation. As an
old-school practitioner, he is passionate about everything
steam-related and firmly believes that he has a duty to pass
that knowledge along to those that follow.
